The GATE staff and board have been hard at work over the past two years to expand and strengthen the organization and its strategies. As part of our new strategic plan, we are excited to share some important news about upcoming senior leadership changes and new job opportunities with you.

After 18 months serving as the interim co-director of GATE,  Masen Davis will be leaving the staff of GATE at the end of the year to assume a new position as Senior Director of Special Projects at the Gill Foundation in Denver, Colorado. We congratulate Masen on this new role! While we will miss having Masen on staff at GATE, it’s a gain to the movement to have more trans people working in philanthropy. We also understand that having trans leaders like Masen working at the national level in the United States is extremely necessary in this particular political moment. We wish him and the U.S. trans movement well!

We are excited to announce that GATE’s board of directors recently approved a new organizational strategy and plan to guide its work through 2018. As part of that new strategy we are thrilled to announce that Mauro Cabral, founding co-director at GATE, has been promoted to the position of Executive Director. Mauro is a long-time activist and one of the most respected leaders in the international trans and intersex movements. He co-founded GATE with Justus Eisfeld in 2009, and has served as Co-Director since then. Mauro currently  coordinates GATE’s initiative on the process of revision and reform of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), and has been deeply involved in all the programs developed by GATE. In addition, Mauro participated in the elaboration of the Yogyakarta Principles and received the 2015 Bob Hepple Equality Award. We are thrilled to have him step up as GATE’s Executive Director!

Lastly, GATE is hiring! We are currently looking to fill a new position for a  new position for Director of Programs, which will work closely with Mauro to help lead the development and executive of GATE’s global strategies. Please consider applying to this role and spread it to your networks.

There will be more positions opening up at GATE in the New Year, so please watch this space for more opportunities.

GATE wishes to extend our greetings for a Happy New Year and an even better start in 2017 to all our friends and allies. Be well!
